Because Chicago sometimes suffers from severe heat
and humidity in the summer, certain Community Centers
were designed as cooling centers to provide its
citizens an escape from the heat. The City of Chicago
directed Montgomery Warson Harza to provide uninteruptable
power for these centers. Windy City Electric installed
a 575k natural gas generator with automatic transfer
from the electric utility grid for any power outages
that may occur. Thus, during extreme heat even with
a power outage, these centers will function. |
